故事背景
在人工卫星生活的新人类《COORDINATOR》，在认知世间开始了数十年后…

地球联合（NATURAL）与Z.A.F.T.因为经济的摩檫而引起对立，正处于胶着状态，两者试图循外交手段来解决纠纷，但种种问题把两方塞在岔道中，最后终于宣布开战。
地球联合军与Z.A.F.T.之战争，已接近11个月了--在战乱中的中立国的资源卫星《HELIOPOLIS》受到Z.A.F.T.的部队突然攻击，经营二手店生意的ROU本来在寻宝时，无意间在秘密基地发现了红色的MS。原来这是大西洋联合在秘密里生产的GUNDAM。
在闪电式的作战行动成功，Z.A.F.T.立即有4部GUNDAM在手中。在炮火中，学生吉良为了救路上的市民和同学，在偶然下卷入战斗中，而他的好友艾斯拿也因此事件后成为敌人。艾斯拿投靠了COORDINATOR一方，战事就在一个偶然的一瞬间，产生了激烈的冲突……
机动战士的故事再一次揭开了序幕……
